GHB is both a sedative and a steroid, formerly sold in many health food stores to promote body-building. Now illegal, GHB usually comes as a liquid, pill or powder with slightly salty taste. At low doses, GHB produces relaxation, but can also interfere with speech, balance and motor control. At higher doses, nausea, vomiting may occur. GHB also induces sleep, which in combination with other drugs, particularly alcohol, may result in coma or death. Often used as a "date rape" drug, because drug is difficult to detect in a drink.
