Nitrous Oxide, a gas used for anesthesia in dental surgery, is often inhaled from small canisters used to make whipped cream (ìWhippitsî) or is dispensed from larger tanks into balloons. Sometimes called ìlaughing gas,î nitrous oxide produces immediate loss of motor control and a floating sense of disconnected perceptions. Extended use can cause brain damage, long-lasting numbness in the feet and hands and sometimes, suffocation. |
