MDMA,
an illegal synthetic drug, acts both as a stimulant and a hallucinogen,
producing euphoria, increased energy, empathy for others, enhanced touch,
and sensory distortions of time and space. Usually takes effect within
half an hour and lasts from four to six hours. Side effects include teeth
clenching, cramps, nausea, blurred vision, paranoia and depression. Dancers
high on MDMA can become dangerously hot and dehydrated, which can result
in stroke, heart attack, liver and kidney failure.
